Wheatgrass generally is sold in three forms: fresh wheatgrass juice, fresh frozen wheatgrass juice, and powdered wheatgrass. There are benefits and risks to each form. In this post, I will elaborate a little more about why we freeze our wheatgrass instead of powdering it.
Fresh wheatgrass juice is almost always from tray-grown wheatgrass and carries a much higher risk of mold contamination. The juice is also from the plant while it is still a sprout and full of simple sugars.
Fresh frozen wheatgrass can be from either tray-grown or field grown wheatgrass. If it's field grown, the wheatgrass is at a vegetable stage full of complex carbohydrates and there is minimal risk of mold. Thanks to freezing, the nutritional content as well as the live chlorophyll and live enzymes in the juice are mostly preserved.
Powdered wheatgrass can also be from tray-grown or field grown wheatgrass. It still carries some of the nutritional benefits, however the wheatgrass no longer contains live chlorophyll or live enzymes.
All three forms have their advantages & disadvantages. We fresh freeze our organic field grown wheatgrass juice because we believe in the benefits of live chlorophyll. Also, it's our opinion that fresh frozen tastes better than powdered. However, if you find yourself in a situation where powdered wheatgrass is your best option, please make sure it is organic and field grown. Give your body the best.
